30 MILLION YEAR OLD PETRIFIED WOOD HAND-CRAFTED INTO STUNNING WORKS OF ART
HOW WOOD BECOMES PETRIFIED
In the right conditions, wooden logs buried underground for millions of years slowly transform into petrified wood. Trapped underground where oxygen and bugs cannot accelerate the log’s decomposition, ground water slowly flows through and around these logs bringing the surrounding sediments with it. As the wood slowly decays, it is replaced with these sediments to create a three-dimensional fossil of the logs in shape and form down to their cell structure. When this fossilized wood is found, it can be cut into a variety of shapes to make stunning table tops, bowls, sinks, shelving, stand alone art pieces, and more. If you’re looking for a large volume cut to custom specifications, please do not hesitate to call and speak with our knowledgeable staff.
MAXIMIZING OUR PRECIOUS RESOURCES
Everything we do at Vintage Timberworks is focused on attention to detail and making the most with our limited resources while also minimizing our carbon footprint. As petrified wood is an extremely rare and precious resource, we strive to use as much of the small cutoff pieces that are generated in the production mill as possible. These small pieces are used as beautiful coasters, tiles, and mosaic works to be cherished for generations to come.
"Vintage Timberworks will be closed on Wednesday, December 23rd at noon and reopen on Monday January 4th for the holidays."
