fine aged reclaimed wood

Originating from barns dating back to the mid 1700’s on the East Coast, reclaimed Oak barnwood planking is available in a range of widths averaging 5”-8” and sometimes up to 16” and random lengths typically 4’-7’ or sometimes up to 12’+. Originally reclaimed as 1” and 2” thick boards, and a mix of Red Oak and White Oak, we often mill the boards to ¾” stock or it can be custom milled thinner upon request. The original color is a mix of browns and grays depending on where on the barn was located. The original brown face usually has a circular sawn texture. This is a popular material for residential and commercial applications and can be milled for interior or exterior uses.

WASHED AND WEATHERED BARN OAK PLANKING

Using our reclaimed gray oak planking, we wash and clean each board removing some of the gray coloration revealing a rich tan patina underneath while preserving the original weather worn texture that has developed over more than 100 years. The material can then be further milled, upon request, to straight cut the edges, lightly sand the face, or gauge the thickness to consistent thickness requested. This material makes great accent wall material and ceiling decking.

SANDED BARN OAK PLANKING

Sanded Barn Oak Planking is created by passing the individual reclaimed oak planks through a special sander which lightly sands the surface to remove the dirt and splinters while keeping the texture and patina intact. This is popular for ceiling and wall applications as well as furniture and barn doors. Further milling is available such as straight cutting the edges and gauging to consistent thickness.

RESAWN OAK BARN PLANKING

With the horizontal bandsaw, we can produce a fresh sawn face on both sides of the planking. This will remove the patina but leave the character marks from the nail holes, insect borrows, and seasoning checks.  This material can also then be sanded smooth or wire brushed. It is a popular choice for clean bright installations that are looking for a less rustic application but want the performance of reclaimed old growth. Sorting for exclusively white oak is an option at an additional cost.

EDGE CUT BARN OAK PLANKING

For a more organic feel with lots of surface variation, we can produce pieces that are the edges ripped from the barn oak planks. These pieces vary in color and thickness to create a very interesting effect. Each piece is about 1″ wide and an average of 2″ thick. The surface can be extremely irregular with some of the edges placed far enough out to create random shelves. Note that this material is supplied in individual pieces, not as panels.
