Originating from residential structures and industrial buildings typically on the West Coast dating back to the early 1900’s, reclaimed Douglas fir planking is available in a wide range of widths up to 16” and long lengths up to 20’+. Originally reclaimed as 2” thick boards, we often split the boards in half to yield ¾” stock or can be custom milled thinner upon request. The original color is a rich, reddish brown patina with the original rough texture containing either a circular sawn or band sawn appearance OR original smooth surface. This is a popular material for residential and commercial applications and can be milled for interior or exterior uses.
AS IS DOUGLAS FIR PLANKING
Typically sourced on the west coast, “As Is” Douglas Fir planking and decking is available in the condition it was received with the visible hardware removed and end damage trimmed. The material will typically be a little dirty and rough and require some cleaning or sanding. It’s most commonly used in 1x and 2x thicknesses. Nominal 1″ board stock can be created by splitting 2″ stock in half, leaving one original side and one freshly sawn side with a slight variation in width and thickness. We typically inventory over 50,000 board feet of this product in a variety of widths and in units of 1000 BF +. Unit discounts available.

SANDED ROUGH SAWN DOUGLAS FIR PLANKING
Sanded Douglas Fir planking is created by passing “As Is” material through a special sander which lightly sands the surface while leaving the patina and original rough sawn texture and character. It produces a more refined appearance and is very popular for open beam ceiling, furniture, and wall applications. Due to its popularity, we typically stock this product gauged to 3/4″ and in a variety of widths.

RESAWN DOUGLAS FIR PLANKING
With the horizontal bandsaw, we can produce a fresh sawn face on both sides of the planking. This will remove the patina and leave a limited amount of character marks from the nail holes, and seasoning checks. It will resemble the look similar to new, freshly sawn Douglas Fir with the main difference being its unmatched stability and the grain density of old growth lumber. This material can also then be sanded smooth or wire brushed. It is a popular choice for clean bright installations that are looking for a less rustic application but want the performance of reclaimed old growth. Sorting for vertical grain that is free of knots and nail holes is also an option.
