One of the most distinctive and durable options in our lineup. Sourced from reclaimed structures in Indonesia—primarily Borneo—this material comes from a protected species that is no longer commercially harvested, making it available strictly as reclaimed wood which is available through Vintage Timberworks on an almost exclusive basis. It’s known for its exceptional density, along with natural resistance to insects and rot, offering a level of durability that sets it apart from nearly all other wood flooring options we carry.

Ulin also stands in a category of its own in terms of appearance. Surface options range from “Rustic” –  showcasing a deep blackish patina with bold texture, to “Semi-Surfaced”, where some of that texture is sanded down while retaining plenty of character. Our “Surfaced” version contains fully remilled and smoother boards with underlying tones that range from dark brown to rich caramel, often contrasted by black streaking, nail holes, and other evidence of its previous life. Some boards lean more uniform, while others carry heavier variation, creating a natural mix of wild and refined within a single floor.

Primarily offered as an engineered flooring product and typically quoted on projects starting at 1,000 square feet, additional setup costs for smaller runs between 500–1,000 square feet are available. Solid wood options may be available for large-volume projects with extended lead times, depending on inventory and production capacity.
