We’re proud to display a new collection of artwork from local artist Shima Shanti. She works in the artistic medium called Encaustic, the 5000-year-old ancient art of painting with beeswax then fusing with heat. Shima works with imperfect elements; some reclaimed and others found in nature. Her methods include photo-encaustic, collage, and assemblage; juxtaposing bold texture and sublime color. Her designs speak of casual elegance that are contemporary, evocative, and timeless. Every detail is touched by the artist’s hand.
This new collection, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” originates from the lens of international photographer Arturo Torres. With careful brushstrokes Shima paints layers of organic beeswax and pigments fusing each layer one upon the other. The surface is then scraped, fused, and polished until a rough yet refined texture is achieved. Pigments are then hand rubbed and fused into the wax and polished to a high gloss creating an ethereal, translucent, and misty quality unique only to beeswax.

The beautiful 8″x10″ pieces in this collection are embellished with copper leaf and mounted on our 12″x12″reclaimed weathered gray board.
Additional collections include images of tranquil coastal scenes, wildlife, early California missions, paintings of early 1900’s Native American portraits, Haitian metalcraft, and antique postcards. Each piece of art is mounted on our weathered gray barnwood squares in sizes from 6″x6″, 8″x8″, 10″x10″, and 12″x12″. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist with a certificate of authentication.
